How to Connect the Vive Focus Vision to Vizard and SightLab VR Pro

Overview

The Vive Focus Vision, Vive’s latest all-in-one VR headset, supports eye and hand tracking, face and body tracker integration, stereo color passthrough, 5K resolution, and a 120-degree field of view. You can connect it to Vizard and SightLab VR Pro either wired or wirelessly using the Vive Streaming or Vive Business Streaming application. Follow the steps below to get started.

Setup Steps

  1. Prepare the Headset
    • Install the battery in the headset.

  • Ensure that both the headset and controllers are fully charged.
  • Power on the headset by pressing and holding the Power button (located at the back) for 3 seconds.

  • Put on the headset and press and hold the headset button at the welcome screen.
  • Pair controllers as prompted.

  • Perform a Boundary Setup to ensure safe movement boundaries.
  1. Connecting to Your PC

    Option 1: Wireless Connection

    • Connect the Vive Focus Vision to the same wireless network as your desktop.
    • A stable and fast connection (Wi-Fi 6 or 6E recommended) is required for the best performance.

Option 2: Wired Connection (Recommended)

  • Use a USB-C to USC 3.0 cable. Recommended cable from our testing has been this one from Syntech
  1. Install Vive Business Streaming from this link
    https://business.vive.com/us/solutions/streaming/

  1. Install the software and launch it.
  2. The Vive Business Streaming app will start automatically.

  1. Under Settings - About - You can also install the Vive Business Streaming App on the VR headset (make sure that it connected)

  1. Adjust settings such as bitrate and sharpening as needed (if using a wireless connection, lower the bitrate for smoother performance).

  1. Install and Configure SteamVR
  1. Install Steam (if not already installed) from: Steam Download
  2. Install SteamVR from: SteamVR Download
  3. Set SteamVR as the default OpenXR runtime:
    1. Open SteamVR
    2. Click Menu → Settings → OpenXR (Note: you may need to also unblock Vive Streaming if it doesn’t work)

  1. Register OpenXR in VBS

Register OpenXR in Vive Business Streaming as well so you can access Eye and Face Tracking from the headset over the streaming connection.

  1. Running in SightLab VR Pro or Vizard
    • In SightLab VR Pro: Select "Vive Focus Vision" from the headset dropdown menu. You can also access all the additional features and built-in templates for the OpenXR capabilities, see this page for more details. This includes easy templates for passthrough, face tracking, hand tracking, as well as the additional eye tracking algorithms and data collection with SightLab.
    • In Vizard: Connect as an "OpenXR" headset.

Note: If pupil diameter data stops collecting, restart the Vive Streaming software

Additional Business Plus Features

  • To apply a batch configuration
    • Login to your business plus account https://businessplus.vive.com/
    • Create an organization or log in to an existing one
    • Click Assign Base Configuration or Assign Patch

Eye Tracking Calibration

To calibrate the eye tracking:

  1. Press the right system button on the controller.
  2. Click Back to Lobby
  3. Navigate to Inputs → Eye Tracking → Calibrate.
  4. After calibration, press the top right button to open your library and click on Vive Streaming to go back.

Reconnecting the Headset After Initial Setup

  • Open Vive Business Streaming (if not already running).
  • Turn on the headset. If plugged in, it should prompt you to select "Vive Streaming".
    • If you don’t see this prompt, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, then select "Vive Streaming".
  • Controllers will turn on automatically when picked up.

Adjusting IPD (Interpupillary Distance)

To disable Auto IPD:

  1. Go to Settings → General → IPD.
  2. Toggle Auto IPD off to manually adjust the distance.

Changing Sleep Time

In the VB+ Batch Configuration, you can adjust the sleep time in the System Preferences section.

Viewing the Passthrough View

In the same System Preferences section, you can also enable passthrough casting/recording.

Troubleshooting Tips

Common Issues and Solutions

Issue Solution
SteamVR not detecting headset Restart Vive Hub, reconnect USB, and restart SteamVR.
Wireless connection lagging Reduce bitrate in Vive Hub settings. Use Wi-Fi 6/6E.
Eye tracking not working Make sure SteamVR is set as active OpenXR.Reconnect headset. Make sure that SteamVR is running and is connected when viewing in the headset and restart the application.
Pupil diameter stops collecting Close and re-open Vive Streaming software.
